About Us

Sungela is a private Australian company that owns an 85% interest in, and operates, the Ensham Coal Mine located near Emerald in Central Queensland.

 

Sungela owns Ensham Resources, the operator of Ensham coal mine and an 85% shareholding in the Ensham business (made up of Nogoa Pastoral and Nogoa Pastoral Joint Venture collectively).

Sungela shareholders are Thungela Resources Australia (75%), Mayfair Corporations Group Pty Ltd (12.5%) and Audley Energy Limited (12.5%).

Thungela is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa, based on aggregate thermal coal reserves and marketable thermal coal production. Thungela owns interests in, and produces, its thermal coal predominantly from seven mining operations. The company exports its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, SEA, Middle East and North African markets. Thungela also holds a 50% interest in Phola, which owns and operates the Phola Coal Processing Plant, and a 23.22% indirect interest in Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT). RBCT is the largest coal export facility in Africa, with an advanced 24-hour operation and a design capacity of 91 MTPA.
